How SaaSy is Your Talent Management Suite?

To say that the HR professional wears many hats is a bit of an understatement. From serving as brand ambassadors to attracting right-fit candidates, to giving staff the support to perform at their best throughout the employee lifecycle, the need to be a jack of all trades comes with the territory. But where does one draw the line when it comes to technology? Obviously a mastery of the various systems in use to manage talent is essential, but should HR professionals be expected to be truly tech savvy?

This issue was raised in a recent survey of HR professionals by Technomedia on the use of talent management suites. When asked how their talent management suite was deployed, as in being implemented on premise or delivered via Software as a Services (SaaS), the majority just wasn’t sure. While 21 percent reported the use of an on premise solution and 16 percent said they leverage a SaaS-based solution, 53 percent of respondents said that they simply did not know the answer to this question.

Does this signify a lack of IT awareness, or just show that HR is more concerned with functionality over form? We prefer to think the latter. Obviously, HR professionals must show deep technological aptitude to understand how their various systems enable them to perform their jobs effectively. So the issue becomes one of semantics – they might not know how their talent management solutions are delivered or the proper terminology, as long as those solutions work as expected. And given the amount of responsibilities on their plate, who can blame them for not wanting to get bogged down in the technical aspects?

Still, it is important to know the difference between on premise and SaaS and how the two types can impact your company’s talent management success. If your talent management suite is delivered on premise as a traditional software license, then you’ll likely have difficulty adapting to changing organizational needs, integrating with new solutions and making necessary upgrades. However, when the talent management suite is delivered via SaaS, you’ll have the benefit of a more flexible solution that can be easily implemented, integrated and upgraded as requirements change.

For anyone who is unsure of how their talent management suite is delivered, it is well worth it to find out. And if the answer turns out to be on premise, it may be time to consider moving to a solution built upon robust, SaaS technology. Doing so will give you a fast, secure and intuitive user experience, regardless of web browser or device being used.

So, if you don’t how “SaaSy” your Talent Management suite is, now’s the time to find out. The success of your talent management program may depend on it.
